Maker Spotlight: Dazed Gem
Hi, I’m Jackie—29 years old and from O’ahu, Hawai’i. My journey with jewelry making began when I was a child, creating little pieces alongside my mom. I always found it so captivating and fun. It wasn’t until 2020, though, that I fully embraced the craft as an adult, starting with quirky wire wraps that felt more like experimentation than anything serious.
In 2021, after sharing some of my jewelry goals with a close friend, she recommended I take classes at a local studio called Bead It. There, I learned everything from crafting fused chains and bangles to bezels and wire wrapping techniques.
For me, jewelry isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about intention. When I choose stones, I focus on their healing properties, creating pieces that serve as daily reminders of the intention behind them. Personally, I wear my jewelry as a reminder to keep pushing forward and stay focused but that also changes depending on what I want to zero in on. I want the pieces I create to plant seeds of healing and reflection for others, too. If my jewelry can help someone on their spiritual journey—whether by offering a sense of strength, comfort, or simply the reminder that they’re not alone—then I’ve done my job.
To other jewelry makers, artists, or anyone who needs to hear it: my advice is simple—"just keep going." This was advice I received from many artists along the way. Don’t let a difficult project, challenging subject, or tough situation stop you from moving forward.
You can find Jackie’s jewelry in store at Onomea Country Market and online at https://www.dazedgem.com and instagram.com/dazedgem
